The liver, colon, and kidneys are the organs that purify the body of toxins; they filter the blood and remove the toxic waste that accumulates from eating or breathing. Fasting, for its part, is a natural detox.
There are methods for eliminating toxins from the kidneys, known as "detox" juices. Cucumber, with its 95% water content, is a very effective detoxifying vegetable.
Here is a detox juice recipe:
In a blender, put two to three small beets, a bunch of parsley, two to three carrots, three cucumbers, two small lemons, as well as a small teaspoon of black seed.
Parsley is one of the most effective foods, as it cleanses the kidneys; it contains beta-carotene and is an antioxidant.
Lemon is an antioxidant.
Beet eliminates toxins and regenerates blood cells.
Kidney diseases are often caused by the fact that the person does not drink enough water, and worse, replaces it with drinks containing artificial colorings that provide no nutrients for our body. Yet the Prophet ﷺ always sought out the best water.
Indeed, it happened that he would ask companions returning from a journey to bring him water from a certain well, since it was pure and effective. Moreover, Zamzam water, which is very beneficial, is mentioned in many hadiths.
In conclusion, one should seek to drink beverages that are good for the liver and kidneys, based on fruits and vegetables, rather than sodas and other drinks that are very harmful to the body.
What the science says: detox and drainage, kidneys and urinary tract
What the published research says about the remedies mentioned above, for informational purposes — the studies address material causes, while healing belongs to Allah.
Detox and drainage
The body "detoxifies" itself through the liver, kidneys, intestine, skin and lungs: supporting them involves fiber (Am J Clin Nutr, 2022), hydration, fasting (BMJ, 2025), liver-supporting plants such as milk thistle (World J Gastroenterol, 2017) and physical activity. Aggressive "cleanses" have no proven benefit and carry risks (Am J Gastroenterol, 2009). Precaution: no purges or enemas without medical advice, and no detox course during pregnancy; heavy metal "chelators" should only be used on prescription.
Kidneys and urinary tract
Cranberry reduces the risk of recurrent urinary tract infections in certain people according to the Cochrane review (Explore, 2024); for stones, abundant hydration and diet (citrate, less salt and animal protein) are the best-supported measures (Minerva Urol Nephrol, 2025) (Arch Ital Urol Androl, 2015). Java tea (orthosiphon), cherry stem, and birch have a draining effect. Precaution: a urinary infection with fever or lower back pain is pyelonephritis — antibiotics are essential; in cases of kidney failure, no diuretic plants or magnesium/potassium without medical advice.
