How to get rid of the pregnancy mask

How to get rid of the pregnancy mask: Professor Akim Bouterra's advice, complemented by what research says (pregnancy), the precautions to know, and our resources to go further.

The pregnancy mask, which appears as brown spots on the face, generally disappears in the trimester following childbirth; however, some marks may persist.

To remedy this, creams and oils can be used, particularly those based on argan oil. Coconut oil, or aloe vera gel with its antioxidant properties, will also help clear this pigmentation.

Furthermore, aloe vera gel, coconut oil, argan oil or olive oil can be combined with sea buckthorn seed essential oil, known for being rich in carotene and very effective at regenerating the skin and fading spots.

What the science says: pregnancy

What published research says about the remedies mentioned above, for context — these studies address material causes; healing belongs to Allah.

Pregnancy

Ginger is the go-to natural remedy for pregnancy nausea (J Matern Fetal Neonatal Med, 2022) (J Am Board Fam Med, 2014); dates in late pregnancy help facilitate labor (Explore, 2021); iron and folic acid levels are monitored (Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand, 2023). Precaution: many plants are not recommended during pregnancy (essential oils, hormonal plants, laxative plants, fenugreek) — do not take any supplement without the advice of your midwife or doctor.
