Hijama: Are there fixed points, or should the patient be treated according to the affected organ(s) without using points?

Hijama: Are there fixed points, or should the patient be treated according to the affected organ(s) without using points? The teaching of Professor Akim Bouterra, completed by what research says (hijama, natural skin care), the precautions to know, and our resources to go further.

Before anything else, you should know that in Hijama terminology, the term "point" simply refers to the place on the body where the cup will be placed.

What the person is actually asking, I think, is "how do we determine where to place the cups?"

To answer this part of the question, we first need to clearly define how Hijama works.

When a cup is placed on the skin and a depression (a vacuum) is created inside it, this draws toward the skin's surface a number of blood elements (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets) that are sick, old, dead, and/or stagnant in the tissues. It also draws out certain waste products (lactic acid, creatinine, etc.) and elements that may be present in excess in the blood and could be a source of disease, and so on.

After a few minutes, the cup is removed, the skin in that area is cleaned with an antiseptic (Betadine, Biseptine, or another), and using a sterile scalpel blade, small superficial incisions are made on the skin. The cup is then placed back and a depression is created inside it once again. Blood elements will then come out. This "blood" will not have the same properties as venous blood, as it is much less fluid, much more loaded with elements that are harmful to the body, and above all quite different in its composition.

The body will also respond to this procedure by regulating certain physiological levels (blood sugar, lipid levels, iron in the blood, etc.)

(For more details, I invite you to refer to the study conducted by Dr. Nabil Ash-Sharif's team)

Beyond this purifying action, Hijama will have many other effects.

Regardless of where the cup is placed, Hijama will stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation.

It will also have a pain-relieving and analgesic action through the secretion of hormones, both locally and within the central nervous system (the "Gate Control of pain" theory). Certain neurotransmitters will also be secreted (notably nitric oxide).

Then, by placing the cups at very specific points on the body, a more particular effect can be achieved.

For example, stimulating or regulating the activity of one or more organs.

By placing them on other parts of the body, one can also stimulate or regulate the body's hormonal metabolism, or stimulate and regulate the immune system, and so on.

Studies have also highlighted the fact that Hijama can have an effect on certain psychological disorders, viral or bacterial infections, as well as on a very large number of conditions.

In short, when properly mastered, Hijama allows a practitioner to address a very wide range of illnesses.

What the science says: hijama and natural skin care

What published research says about the remedies mentioned above, for context — these studies address material causes, while healing belongs to Allah.

Hijama

Hijama (cupping with scarification) is an authentic prophetic remedy. Modern research has mainly focused on pain: meta-analyses show a reduction in chronic lower back pain (Rev Lat Am Enfermagem, 2018) (Complement Ther Med, 2024). Precaution: wet hijama is an invasive procedure — strict hygiene, single-use equipment, a trained practitioner; contraindicated without medical advice in cases of coagulation disorders, anticoagulant use, severe anemia, pregnancy, or significant frailty.

Natural skin care

Aloe vera promotes healing and soothes the skin according to a review of clinical trials (Iran J Med Sci, 2019) (Plast Reconstr Surg, 2018); in eczema, daily moisturizing with emollients is the foundation of treatment (Int J Dermatol, 2025) and the skin microbiome plays a central role (J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol, 2023). Olive oil, black seed oil, honey, and shea butter are the traditional emollients. Precaution: test any new product on a small area for 24 hours; a lesion that spreads, oozes, or becomes infected requires a doctor's attention.
