Natural remedies recommended for bedwetting

Natural remedies recommended for bedwetting: the advice of Professor Akim Bouterra, complemented by what the research says (honey), the precautions to know, and our resources for going further.

The prophetic remedy for a child suffering from enuresis is to take a medium tablespoon, ideally of jujube honey or black seed honey, before sleeping. Olive oil can also be gently warmed and applied lukewarm along the spine from top to bottom before sleeping, in addition to the spoonful of honey, for one to one and a half months. This is a remedy for cases where the child does not have psychological issues; we will not go into detail here, but we point toward treatments within Prophetic Medicine. The details are of course to be found with doctors.

What the science says: honey

What published research says about the remedies mentioned above, as further insight—these studies concern material causes; healing belongs to Allah.

Honey

"There is a healing for people in honey": research confirms several of its uses. The Cochrane review concludes that honey relieves acute cough in children better than no treatment and at least as well as certain syrups (Cochrane, 2018) (Eur J Pediatr, 2023). On the skin, honey dressings speed up healing and reduce wound infections (Nutrients, 2024), including burns (N Z Med J, 2009). Precaution: never give honey before the age of one (risk of infant botulism); choose raw, unheated honey from a reliable source.
