Natural remedies recommended for hyperactivity

Natural remedies recommended for hyperactivity: Professor Akim Bouterra's guidance, complemented by what the research says (memory and concentration, medicinal mushrooms), the precautions to know, and our resources to go further.

Hyperactivity is not easy to cure, but alhamdulillah there are effective remedies in Prophetic Medicine, and among these we find the truffle. This mushroom is full of protein, which helps the brain mobilize and nourish itself. The Arabs used to use the truffle that grows in the Sahara at the time of thunder. There is a very effective mushroom against hyperactivity called "lion's mane," which nourishes the brain and helps the hyperactive person calm down and concentrate. Sport also helps calm hyperactive people, as in the time of the Prophet ﷺ when wrestling or swimming was practiced. Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ insisted a great deal on the importance of exercising our limbs in order to help a person calm down and put their brain to work.

What the science says: memory and concentration, medicinal mushrooms

What published research says about the remedies mentioned above, for context — the studies look at material causes; healing belongs to Allah.

Memory and concentration

Ginkgo biloba modestly improves cognitive function in mild dementia according to meta-analyses (J Alzheimers Dis, 2015) (World J Biol Psychiatry, 2025); physical activity is the best-established protective factor against cognitive decline (JAMA Netw Open, 2024) (Br J Sports Med, 2022). Sleep, omega-3s, learning the Qur'an, and social connection help maintain memory. Precaution: ginkgo thins the blood (anticoagulants, surgery); memory problems that interfere with daily life warrant a medical evaluation.

Medicinal mushrooms

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) and other medicinal mushrooms contain beta-glucans and triterpenes with immunomodulatory effects, critically reviewed (Phytother Res, 2021) (Biomolecules, 2022) (Molecules, 2023) — hence their place in the immune-support courses the professor recommends. Precaution: quality and source should be verified; use caution with immunosuppressive treatment, anticoagulants, or before surgery; take as 2- to 3-month courses rather than continuously.
