Prophetic Medicine gives us black seed (Nigella sativa) as a remedy, which can be ground and mixed with honey. There is also costus, as well as ginger. The latter can be used regularly in cooking so that the worms do not come back. Garlic is also effective against intestinal worms. All these remedies should
preferably be taken on an empty stomach, for three days.
What worms are we talking about?
| Worm | How to recognize it | How it's caught | What gets rid of it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pinworm (most common, especially in children) | Itching around the anus in the evening and at night, restless sleep, small mobile white worms about 1 cm long in the stool or on pajamas | Hands, nails, sheets, toys: the whole family reinfects itself | A dewormer for the whole family, two doses 15 days apart, plus hygiene; the professor's remedies as a complement |
| Roundworm (Ascaris) | Large white worms 15 to 30 cm long, coughing followed by digestive trouble; mainly after returning from travel | Raw vegetables or contaminated water | Medical dewormer |
| Tapeworm | Flat white segments in the stool, hunger, weight loss | Undercooked beef | Medical treatment; pumpkin seeds are the traditional dewormer for flatworms |
| Giardia (microscopic parasite) | Greasy diarrhea, bloating, often after travel | Water | Medical treatment after stool analysis |
A recent review on pinworm points out that it affects 2 to 20% of children, that nighttime scratching is the main sign, that diagnosis is made with the morning "tape test," and that treatment relies on a dewormer taken by every member of the household and repeated two weeks later, along with hygiene measures, without which recurrence is the rule (Dtsch Arztebl Int, 2019).
Hygiene, which matters more than any remedy
- Nails cut short, hands washed with soap after using the toilet and before every meal, for everyone.
- A shower in the morning (eggs are laid at night), pajamas and underwear changed daily, washed at 60°C.
- Sheets, towels and stuffed animals washed on the day of treatment and again two weeks later.
- No scratching: eggs pass under the nails and then to the mouth; a one-piece pajama for little ones.
- The whole family gets treated on the same day, even without symptoms.
The professor's remedies, put in context
- Black seed (Nigella sativa) and honey. Extracts of black seed and its thymoquinone show activity against several parasites in the lab and in animals (schistosomes, hydatid cysts) (Biomed Res Int, 2022), (Korean J Parasitol, 2014); honey soothes the gut and makes the ground seed pleasant for a child.
- Ginger. Compounds in ginger (gingerols, shogaols) paralyze and kill the dwarf tapeworm in the lab (Acta Trop, 2014), and the extract is active in animals against roundworms; the professor wants it in everyday cooking so that "the worms don't come back": that's its proper use.
- Garlic. Garlic reduces parasite load in animals (BMC Vet Res, 2024); it's the folk dewormer of every country, eaten raw and on an empty stomach.
- Indian costus. A dewormer from Arab and Ayurvedic tradition; its lactones are antiparasitic in the lab; see our guide to costus for its dosages and limits (not for young children taken orally).
- Pumpkin seeds, which the professor mentions elsewhere: the traditional dewormer for flatworms, confirmed in animals against the dwarf tapeworm (Acta Parasitol, 2019).
All of this is real, but in animals or in a test tube. Medical dewormers (mebendazole, albendazole, pyrantel), on the other hand, have cure rates measured in thousands of children in pooled trials (BMJ, 2017), in a single dose, and they are safe. The right order: the dewormer for the whole household, hygiene, and the professor's remedies as a three-day course to support treatment and above all to prevent recurrence.
The three-day course, as given by the professor
- In the morning, on an empty stomach: a teaspoon of ground black seed mixed with a teaspoon of honey (from age 3; half a teaspoon before age 6); an adult adds a crushed raw clove of garlic, swallowed with a little water, or a chewed slice of fresh ginger.
- Wait half an hour before eating.
- Three days in a row, as the professor indicates; for flatworms, one may replace or supplement with 30 to 50 g of crushed pumpkin seeds with honey.
- Repeat two weeks later, to cover the egg cycle, at the same time as the second dose of the medical dewormer if one was taken.
- Afterward: ginger and garlic in everyday cooking, a teaspoon of black seed once a week, and nail and hand hygiene; that is the prevention.
Contraindications and precautions
No honey before age one, no black seed or costus taken orally before age three, no raw garlic for young children or anyone with a sensitive stomach. Black seed and costus should be avoided during pregnancy; the medical dewormer is also subject to medical advice in that case, though pyrantel is possible on prescription. See a doctor when worms are seen in the stool without knowing which kind, in cases of large worms, flat segments, blood in the stool, weight loss, abdominal pain, or diarrhea after returning from travel: these cases call for testing and appropriate treatment, which plants do not replace. In children, anal scratching that persists despite treating the whole family should be reassessed: it is not always pinworm.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best natural remedy for intestinal worms?
The professor's remedies, black seed with honey, garlic, ginger, costus, have demonstrated activity in animals; pumpkin seeds are the traditional dewormer for flatworms. But to get rid of pinworms, a medical dewormer for the whole family and hygiene remain essential; the plants support and prevent.
Do honey and black seed kill worms?
Black seed has antiparasitic action measured in the lab and in animals; honey soothes the gut and makes the course pleasant. A teaspoon of ground seeds in honey, on an empty stomach, for three days, repeated two weeks later.
How do I know if my child has worms?
They scratch their bottom in the evening and at night, sleep poorly, and small mobile white worms about a centimeter long are sometimes seen in the stool or on the pajamas. The doctor confirms with the morning tape test.
Why do worms always come back?
Because the eggs remain under the nails, in the sheets and on toys, and a single untreated family member reinfects the others. Treat everyone the same day, wash laundry at 60°C, cut nails, and repeat after two weeks.
Is raw garlic effective?
It is the folk dewormer of every tradition, and it reduces parasites in animals. One crushed raw clove on an empty stomach, for adults, for three days; not for young children.
