Remedies for prostatitis

Remedies for prostatitis: Professor Akim Bouterra's advice, complemented by what the research says (prostate, kidneys, and urinary tract), the precautions to know, and our resources to go further.

Prostatitis causes a feeling of heaviness at the base of the penis, and sometimes pain during urination, particularly in cases of infection. It most often results from a urinary tract infection caused by cystitis or a sexually transmitted disease.

Indian costus and marine costus are very effective for prostatitis. Once a day, take a small teaspoon diluted in a glass of water.

You can also use bee pollen combined with honey, to be taken on an empty stomach in the morning.

Horse chestnut is also an ideal remedy for prostatitis. Someone suffering from prostatitis should take two capsules per day for a period of three months, before or during meals.

Herbal teas, especially in cases of inflammation, will bring great benefit; particularly thyme, marjoram, or dried cherry stem herbal teas.

In addition, washing the intimate areas should not be neglected, notably with rosemary, lavender, or goldenrod.

What the science says: prostate, kidneys, and urinary tract

What published research says about the remedies mentioned above, for informational purposes only — the studies concern material causes, healing belongs to Allah.

The prostate

Pumpkin seeds and saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) are the most studied natural remedies for benign prostatic hyperplasia; trial results are mixed but a recent review clarifies their place (World J Mens Health, 2024) (BJU Int, 2012). Nettle, lycopene (tomato), zinc, and selenium round things out. Precaution: any urinary issue in men over 50 warrants a check-up (PSA test, exam) before turning to natural remedies.

Kidneys and urinary tract

Cranberry reduces the risk of recurrent urinary tract infections in some people according to the Cochrane review (Explore, 2024); for kidney stones, generous hydration and diet (citrate, less salt and animal protein) are the best-supported measures (Minerva Urol Nephrol, 2025) (Arch Ital Urol Androl, 2015). Java tea, cherry stems, and birch have a draining effect. Precaution: a urinary tract infection with fever or lower back pain is pyelonephritis — antibiotics are essential; in case of kidney failure, do not take diuretic herbs or magnesium/potassium supplements without medical advice.
