Treatment for head lice

Treatment for head lice: the professor Akim Bouterra's advice, complemented by what research says (parasites and bites), the precautions to know, and our resources to go further.

It is recommended to use one large tablespoon of vinegar mixed with a small teaspoon of olive oil. Then, add onion juice, apply this mixture to the scalp, and afterward the child should sleep with a cap on. The next morning, rinse it out with an organic egg shampoo, adding an egg yolk to it. This treatment should be repeated for three days to see results, in sha Allah.

What the science says: parasites and bites

What published research says about the remedies mentioned above, for context—the studies address material causes, while healing belongs to Allah.

Parasites and bites

Repellent essential oils (citronella, lemon eucalyptus, geranium) have been the subject of reviews on mosquitoes (Planta Med, 2011) (J Pharm Bioallied Sci, 2025); for lice, physical treatments (fine-tooth comb, occlusive oils) are preferred over insecticides; for intestinal worms, garlic, pumpkin seeds, and hand hygiene support the dewormer. Precaution: a bite that swells significantly, a fever after travel, or a persistent infestation requires a doctor; essential oils should be diluted and avoided in young children.
