Combining homeopathy and herbal medicine for childbirth

Combining homeopathy and herbal medicine for childbirth: the advice of Professor Akim Bouterra, supplemented by what the research says (pregnancy), the precautions to know, and our resources to go further.

Some women wonder about combining homeopathy with herbal medicine at the end of pregnancy to make labor easier. We recommend sticking with the advice of our Prophet ﷺ, such as eating soft dates, as well as drinking plenty of water, using raspberry leaf, or walking outdoors.

Indeed, many women, by the grace of Allah, have followed these remedies and gotten good results. Of course, our Lord's support is what matters most, especially during this time when labor is near, so it will be important to increase one's supplications.

What the science says: pregnancy

What published research says about the remedies mentioned above, for context only — these studies examine material causes, while healing belongs to Allah.

Pregnancy

Ginger is the go-to natural remedy for pregnancy nausea (J Matern Fetal Neonatal Med, 2022) (J Am Board Fam Med, 2014); dates in late pregnancy ease labor (Explore, 2021); iron and folic acid levels are monitored (Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand, 2023). Precaution: many plants are not recommended during pregnancy (essential oils, hormonal plants, purgative plants, fenugreek) — do not take any supplement without the advice of a midwife or doctor.
