Polycystic ovary syndrome is defined by the accumulation of small cysts around the ovaries, which can lead to an absence of ovulation and therefore, in more severe cases, the inability to have a child. This condition affects hormonal balance.
To help with this problem, it is recommended to fight stress by drinking herbal teas made from linden, as stress has a considerable impact on our health.
How can this condition be remedied naturally?
Prophetic medicine offers two powerful allies for strengthening the ovaries and restoring hormonal balance: costus and black seed.
Indeed, costus facilitates menstrual flow, restores hormonal balance, and fights diseases related to the ovaries.
Black seed, for its part, cleanses the body of its toxins, strengthens the ovaries, and destroys bacteria.
According to Abu Hurayrah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said about black seed: "There is a cure in the black seed for every disease except death." (Reported by al-Bukhari, n° 5688).
Follow this treatment for three months: take costus in capsules 3 times a day, and black seed, also in capsules.
What's happening in PCOS
The name is misleading: the "cysts" are actually small follicles, egg cells that started to mature and stopped along the way. They accumulate because ovulation doesn't happen, or happens rarely. The cause lies upstream, in the hormones: in most affected women, the body responds poorly to insulin, produces more of it, and this excess insulin pushes the ovaries to produce too many androgens (male hormones). Hence the three signs that define the syndrome: long or absent cycles, excess androgens (excess hair growth, acne, hair loss), and ovaries with multiple follicles on ultrasound. Two out of three are enough for a diagnosis. PCOS affects about one woman in ten and remains the leading cause of infertility due to lack of ovulation.
The professor is right to place stress in the picture: a meta-analysis of 41 studies found higher cortisol levels in women with PCOS (Gynecol Endocrinol, 2021), and cortisol worsens insulin resistance. The evening linden tea is not a minor detail.
The first treatment, before any capsule
All international recommendations (2023 update) and the Cochrane review on the subject agree: in overweight women with PCOS, a 5 to 10% weight loss through diet and physical activity often restores ovulation and improves hormone levels (Cochrane, 2019). In lean women, it's the quality of the plate and physical movement that matter. The prophetic model is made for this:
- the one-third rule, and fruit or raw vegetables before the meal to slow down sugar;
- no fast sugars or juices: these are what raise insulin;
- protein at every meal (eggs, fish, meat, legumes), healthy fats (olive oil, black seed, walnuts);
- brisk walking 30 minutes a day, or strength training three times a week: muscle uses up sugar without insulin;
- regular sleep and a quiet moment in the evening, with linden tea.
The professor's remedies and others, tested against the evidence
| Remedy | What research found | How |
|---|---|---|
| Black seed | Randomized trial in 114 adolescent girls with PCOS, 1,000 mg per day for 16 weeks: improvement in cycles, hormones, and symptoms compared to the control group (J Ovarian Res, 2024); a secondary analysis also shows a drop in blood sugar (2025) | 1 g per day in oil capsules or ground seeds, as prescribed by the professor; see our guide to black seed |
| Indian costus (qust al-hindi) | Mentioned by the Prophet ﷺ as a remedy (al-Bukhari); for PCOS, only studies on botanical relatives in animals exist, no trial in women | Solid tradition, absent clinical proof: it is tried as the professor advises, in capsules, while watching for tolerance |
| Cinnamon | Meta-analysis of trials in women with PCOS: reduction in fasting blood sugar and insulin resistance (J Ethnopharmacol, 2020) | 1 to 2 g of Ceylon cinnamon per day |
| Inositol | 30 trials gathered for the 2023 recommendations: improvement in insulin and metabolic parameters, more uncertain effect on ovulation (J Clin Endocrinol Metab, 2024) | 2 to 4 g of myo-inositol per day; available at pharmacies |
| Spearmint | Randomized trial: two cups a day for a month reduce androgens and perceived excess hair growth (Phytother Res, 2010) | Dried leaf infusion, morning and evening |
| Linden | Traditional calming plant; it targets stress, as measured by cortisol | One cup in the evening, as the professor advises |
Building your three months
The professor sets three months, and this is not arbitrary: an egg takes about 90 days to mature from the dormant follicle to ovulation. What is changed today shows up in the cycle three months later. The program therefore fits into one quarter: black seed every day, costus following the professor's protocol, cinnamon or inositol if insulin is involved (blood test), spearmint if excess hair growth dominates, linden tea in the evening, and mindful eating and walking every day. Track your cycles (an app is enough) to assess at the end of the quarter. If the goal is pregnancy, discuss it with the gynecologist from the start: an ovulation-inducing treatment can be combined with all of this.
Contraindications and precautions
Indian costus and high doses of black seed are stopped as soon as pregnancy is possible or confirmed. Cinnamon in large amounts must be Ceylon cinnamon (Chinese cinnamon contains coumarin, which is toxic to the liver). Black seed, cinnamon, and inositol lower blood sugar: women on metformin should monitor their blood glucose and inform their doctor. Spearmint should not be taken for months without a break. PCOS carries a long-term risk of diabetes and cardiovascular problems: an annual checkup (blood sugar, lipids, blood pressure) is part of follow-up, whatever treatment is chosen.
Frequently asked questions
Can PCOS go away?
The underlying condition remains, but symptoms can fade for good: regular cycles, ovulation, clear skin, with diet, movement, and supplements. Many women with PCOS have children without medical help once insulin is under control.
Is black seed effective against PCOS?
A randomized trial in 114 adolescent girls shows improvement in cycles and hormones with 1 g per day for 16 weeks. It is the professor's remedy with the most evidence.
Is Indian costus proven for the ovaries?
It is mentioned in the Sunnah and the professor recommends it, but no clinical trial has tested it in PCOS. It is used on that basis, without attributing to it more than what is actually known.
Can you get pregnant with PCOS?
Yes, this is even the most common outcome after proper management. If ovulation does not return after three to six months of lifestyle changes and supplements, the gynecologist has simple treatments available to trigger it.
Should you take the pill?
It regularizes periods and calms excess hair growth, but does not correct insulin and masks the problem. This is a choice to discuss with the doctor based on age, pregnancy plans, and symptoms; natural remedies and lifestyle changes remain useful with or without it.
