Squash is filled with virtues and was mentioned in the Qur'an and the Sunnah. It is a source of selenium, zinc, and vitamin A. They are very effective for treating urinary or prostate problems. As a source of trace elements, they are also anti-inflammatory.
Pumpkin seeds can be taken in capsule form, at a rate of three per day for three months.
As for pumpkin seeds, you can snack on them between meals; it is best to have them between lunch and dinner.
In addition, we strongly recommend getting children used to eating pumpkin seeds or nuts, a source of omegas that are good for their neurological development, rather than chips or processed products, which are very harmful and can lead to hyperactivity.
What the science says: prostate, kidneys, and the urinary tract
What the published research says about the remedies mentioned above, for context—these studies look at material causes, but healing belongs to Allah.
The prostate
Pumpkin seeds and saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) are the most studied natural remedies for benign prostatic hyperplasia; trial results are mixed, but a recent review clarifies their place (World J Mens Health, 2024) (BJU Int, 2012). Nettle, lycopene (tomato), zinc, and selenium round out the approach. Precaution: any urinary trouble in men after age 50 calls for a checkup (PSA test, examination) before turning to natural care.
Kidneys and the urinary tract
Cranberry reduces the risk of recurrent urinary tract infections in certain people according to the Cochrane review (Explore, 2024); for kidney stones, generous hydration and diet (citrate, less salt and animal protein) are the best-supported measures (Minerva Urol Nephrol, 2025) (Arch Ital Urol Androl, 2015). Java tea (orthosiphon), cherry stems, and birch have a draining effect. Precaution: a urinary infection with fever or lower back pain is pyelonephritis—antibiotics are essential; in cases of kidney failure, do not take diuretic herbs or magnesium/potassium without medical advice.
