First, we should mention "alkafour," eucalyptus, effective for treating the respiratory system since it acts directly on the bronchial cells, increases secretions, and breaks down mucus. Eucalyptus can be found in the form of balm, powder, essential oil, or capsules. And before sleeping, it is good to do eucalyptus inhalations, as it is antiseptic and antiviral.
Also, the ginger and honey mixture has a decongestant and antibacterial effect.
To do this, heat two tablespoons of honey and add a teaspoon of grated ginger to it, to be consumed three times a day.
You can also juice an onion and add the juice of one lemon to it, to be consumed three times a day. A saltwater gargle also helps with mucus buildup; it should be done three times a day. And finally, the beta-carotene contained in carrot juice clears mucus.
What the science says: essential oils
Here is what published research says about the remedies mentioned above, offered for context — these studies address material causes, but healing belongs to Allah.
Essential oils
Tea tree essential oil has documented effectiveness on acne (Antioxidants, 2023), peppermint oil on irritable bowel syndrome (Aliment Pharmacol Ther, 2022), and lavender and others on anxiety (Pharmacol Res, 2022) — but these are powerful concentrates. Precaution: always dilute before applying to skin, never use in the eyes or undiluted by mouth without advice; contraindicated for pregnant women (unless advised), children under 3 (under 6 for peppermint), asthmatics, and epileptics for several of them.
