Above all, one must sincerely repent and intend never to return to this sin.
People who have consumed alcohol will need a detox. To cleanse the body, we use the seven prophetic remedies, which are honey, black seed, fennel seeds, senna, ajwa dates, costus, and lotus leaves.
There is also a plant available in capsule form called "kudzu," and three capsules a day will be effective in purifying the body of alcohol, or of drugs as well.
The person should also drink, twice a day, morning and evening, fresh black grape juice with a small teaspoon of black seed, for three months.
What the science says: breaking free from dependency, detox and drainage
Here is what the published research says about the remedies mentioned above, for context—these studies address material causes, while healing belongs to Allah.
Breaking free from dependency
Smoking cessation relies on structured support whose effectiveness is well established by the full body of Cochrane reviews (Tob Induc Dis, 2024); calming herbs (valerian, passionflower) and exercise help get through withdrawal cravings, with physical activity also protecting mood. Islam offers a powerful framework: sincere intention, supplication (du'a), support from those around you, replacing a habit with a good deed. Precaution: abruptly stopping alcohol in a heavy drinker can be dangerous (seizures)—it should be done under a doctor's supervision; don't hesitate to seek support.
Detox and drainage
The body "detoxifies" itself through the liver, kidneys, intestines, skin, and lungs: supporting these organs involves fiber (Am J Clin Nutr, 2022), hydration, fasting (BMJ, 2025), liver-supporting herbs like milk thistle (World J Gastroenterol, 2017), and physical activity. Aggressive "cleanses" have no proven benefit and carry risks (Am J Gastroenterol, 2009). Precaution: no purges or enemas without medical advice, and no detox course during pregnancy; heavy metal "chelators" should only be used under prescription.
