To treat acne, we find black seed (Nigella sativa) in the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. It can be found in creams and can effectively treat this problem by providing the necessary antioxidants. Be sure to check that the cream has a good composition, and that it is organic.
Additionally, there is a very effective fruit, nicknamed "the Berbers' almond," which is none other than argan. Widely used among Arabs, and cited extensively for dermatological problems by Ibn al-Baitar, an Arab physician, more than ten centuries ago.
Furthermore, another thing Arab physicians used a great deal: gum arabic, which you can find in the form of herbal teas or cream; it can be combined with sulfur, particularly sulfur soaps.
Finally, to clear up acne, the skin will need a supply of vitamin E, so you can take dietary supplements for that purpose.
What the science says: acne, natural skin care
What the published research says about the remedies mentioned above, for reference only — the studies focus on material causes, while healing belongs to Allah.
Acne
Diet influences acne: dairy products and high-glycemic-index foods make it worse according to several reviews (JAAD Int, 2022) (Int J Dermatol, 2022); tea tree essential oil has shown effectiveness comparable to certain topical treatments (Antioxidants, 2023), and honey, aloe vera, and black seed are helpful for lesions and scarring. Precaution: dilute essential oils, do not pop lesions; severe or scarring acne calls for a dermatologist.
Natural skin care
Aloe vera promotes healing and soothes the skin according to a review of clinical trials (Iran J Med Sci, 2019) (Plast Reconstr Surg, 2018); in eczema, daily moisturizing with emollients is the foundation of treatment (Int J Dermatol, 2025) and the skin microbiome plays a central role (J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol, 2023). Olive oil, black seed oil, honey, and shea butter are the traditional emollients. Precaution: test any new product on a small area for 24 hours; a lesion that spreads, weeps, or becomes infected calls for a doctor.
