Soy: a fertility booster?

Soy: a fertility booster? : the professor Akim Bouterra's advice, supplemented by what research says (fertility, iron and anemia), the precautions to know, and our resources to go further.

Soy contains isoflavones with estrogenic effects, allowing a woman with low estrogen levels to boost that level.

Furthermore, it is known that medications with estrogenic components can have undesirable effects or contraindications; it will therefore be preferable to opt for soy, which notably helps reduce hot flashes and anxiety during the pre-menopause period. In case of low estrogen levels, it will therefore be beneficial for the woman to favor soy in all its forms.

In addition, its seed and its oil are rich in unsaturated fatty acids, allowing the woman to boost her estrogen levels; it can now be found in the form of phyto soy.

It is also known that marjoram has very satisfying effects in the fight against female infertility.

What the science says: fertility, iron and anemia

What published research says about the remedies mentioned above, for context — these studies address material causes; healing belongs to Allah.

Fertility

The Cochrane review shows that antioxidants (zinc, selenium, vitamins C and E, coenzyme Q10) may improve male fertility (Cochrane, 2022); lifestyle-related oxidative stress is a major cause of male infertility (World J Mens Health, 2019) and the Mediterranean diet supports female fertility (Am J Obstet Gynecol, 2023); an anti-inflammatory diet reduces endometriosis pain (Front Nutr, 2023). Precaution: hormonal plants (chasteberry, sage, ginseng) should not be combined with ART treatment without the medical team's involvement; this should be a joint decision, over at least three months.

Iron and anemia

Iron bisglycinate effectively increases hemoglobin and ferritin with fewer digestive side effects than classic forms (Nutr Rev, 2023); in children, optimal dose and duration have been clarified (PLoS One, 2025), and in pregnant women supplementation is studied according to iron status (Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand, 2023). Red meat, liver, lentils, dates, and spirulina, combined with vitamin C, are good sources. Precaution: do not supplement with iron without testing — excess is harmful; space it apart from tea and coffee, which block its absorption.
